Forward Motion

I am walking, I am walking...
I have walked so many miles.
Smiling throughout the journey,
wearing a mask that I created
many years ago.

I am driving, I am driving...
I've been driving so many miles
Laughing at the wind and rain
Looking for a child I knew
many years ago.

I am flying, I am flying...
I am going where the wind will take me
No time left to contemplate
Nothing left to communicate
Complications falling behind me
As I wipe away the tears I've been crying
For my pain collected over years gone by.

I am walking, I am wandering...
Following the footsteps
of some other lost and lonely soul
from another time and another place
I am searching for the meaning of the dreams
that made me scream out at the night.

I was born crying tears of innocence
I learned loneliness as an infant from a family divided
I learned hatred as a child from the fury of an adopted father
and the wandering hands of a terrible stranger.
I carry with me the sorrow of a hundred broken hearts
and the shattered innocence of childhood dream.

I am driving, I am crying for forgiveness
And trying only to forgive as I relive the tears.
I have learned there is no answer to the question, "Why?"
I have also seen the love and the light and the beauty
all around me and only keep trying to see it all
through the eyes of a child I knew
many years ago.

I am flying, I am flying...
I am going where the wind will take me
No time left to contemplate
Nothing left to communicate
Complications falling behind me
I will walk again tomorrow
and look all around me for the love and the light
and the beauty of forgiveness
seen through the eyes of innocence
by the child I knew
so many years ago.
